Penthouse: Refreshing Japandi with Quality Craftsmanship
This home project in the east was a big one. It was an overhaul of the entire home, including kitchen, yard, staircase, bathrooms, bedrooms and balconies. Our client wanted their home to be chic, minimal, and Japandi-inspired. When we heard this, we knew we had to level up our game and design a home that brought a whole new perspective to the predictable Japandi theme.
Refreshing a design theme that's been done to death
Japandi is one of the most (if not the most) popular design theme that every new home owner seeks for. It is timeless, sleek, and easy on the eyes. The Japandi interior trend blends Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian warmth, creating a harmonious balance of functionality and simplicity. Characterized by clean lines, natural materials like wood and bamboo, and a muted color palette, Japandi spaces prioritize tranquility and uncluttered aesthetics. To most layman Singaporeans, it is the 'easiest' theme to design your home after because of the sheer amount of generic inspiration online. Here at Make Room, we detest being generic! So we thoroughly enjoyed designing this home, renewing ideas of how to create a Japandi feel with unique furnitures, textures, and finishing.
Bathroom
One of our favourite spaces in this home are the two bathrooms. Each of them beautifully detailed, crafted, but yet uncluttered. The white rectangular tiles were tastefully selected to match the unique basin (which we absolutely love!), and they feel like smooth grain when you trace your fingers along them - a luxury to the senses.
Both basins are statement fixtures that made our hearts burst with joy. We loved how the colours and textures came together perfectly in both bathrooms. There are multiple areas of detail if you let your eyes linger around our photos a little longer - you'll see how we incorporate designer fittings like hooks, toilet paper holder, and even some gorgeous bathroom ware from Bolia.
Dining
The dining area looks like it was sculpted from the skillful hands of a pottery master. The table being the center of attention shows off its curves with rattan and wood chairs lined around it. Even the chairs here were handpicked to be slightly different in design to give a little more character to the theme of Japandi.
The large artwork behind the dining table also adds a flair to the space. Instead of keeping the walls plain like most Japandi homes do, this hand painted artpiece by Chris Lily James turns 'boring' into soothing. Shop more of her artwork here.
It's all in the details!
