The California Collection was born after a spontaneous conversation between Elements and Make Room to bring playful vibrancy into interior styling. With the modern resurgence of retro trends such as rattan and the current importance of sustainability, a partnership between Elements and Make Room is an obvious one.
Heavily influenced by the free-spirited nature of California in the seventies, Make Room created three designs that ooze a carefree attitude inspired by some of the greatest style icons of the 70's. The connection between fashion, identity and design is at the core of Make Room's ethos on design and styling, and The California Collection is yet another translation of just that. Simply put, this limited edition collection is Singapore's answer to cool and affordable plant pots.

MEET THE TEAM
So many of my interior design choices are inspired by fashion and and culture, and designing these pots was no exception. So when it came to naming the three designs, it was only natural to look to the greatest style icons of the 70s. It is my pleasure to introduce you to you:
Iman - named after the iconic supermodel, whose beauty inspired the rainbow design
Jimi - of course named after Mr. Hendrix, whose unparalleled style influenced the pink wave design
Yoko - named after Yoko Ono and inspired the optimism of the oversized yellow dots.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
We've been long-time admirers of Element's products, but one item we keep coming back to is their Mozambique pots. They come in a few different designs with zigzags and lines, but only in black and terracotta colours. And so often we found ourselves wanting a bit more colour and variety, so we just spontaneously asked them: can we design a few pots for you? Needless to say they said yes and were just as excited about this new range as we were. So, I sat down at my desk and came up with a few different ranges to present to the Elements team. We were torn between vibrancy that is now The California Collection, and something more neutral. In the end, I felt the market was really missing playful and bright pots - after all, that's exactly what sparked this collab in the first place!

Handmade by the Elements artisans in Indonesia, the pots are made of terracotta and can be used indoors and outdoors (if covered). Colours and sizing may vary slightly due to the handmade nature. Dimensions are approximately 30 x 30cm.
